The Ab Diet

The Ab Diet

Belly fat can be quite a nuisance, especially as we age. Luckily, there are several small changes you can make by following ab diet and show off your abs.

Recent research has shown that one of the most powerful things to help you lose your belly is monounsaturated fatty acids. It may sound counter intuitive to hear that eating this type of fat can help you lose fat, but several studies have shown that increasing these healthy fats to replace other unhealthy fats in the diet, such as trans fats, can help flatten your stomach. Choose to snack on foods such as avocados, olives, or nuts and seeds, which are high in monounsaturated fats. Several oils are a great source of these fats as well: olive, flax seed, safflower, sunflower seed, and walnut oil are all good options, and they are a delicious addition to salads or in baked goods. You can also try dipping your bread in olive oil rather than spreading it with butter.

It is also important to cut out certain foods from your ab diet if you want to successfully trim your waistline. One of the worst offenders to having a nice stomach is sugar. Many processed foods contain sugar, and you will most likely find that simply cutting out such foods will drastically reduce your sugar intake. Avoid soda, which is pure sugar water, and try to cut back on how much sugar you add to coffee or tea. Watch juice consumption as well; while juices often claim to be healthy, they contain little more than the sugar and water of the fruit they were made from.

Similar to sugar is refined starch, which some call “white starch.” This is the starch used in many processed foods, such as crackers and white bread. If you’ve cut such foods from your diet, you probably won’t be consuming as much refined starch. Switch to whole grains, and check ingredient labels for words like “whole grain flour” rather than “enriched flour.” Complex carbohydrates, such as those in vegetables and whole grains, are what you should be including in your ab diet instead of simple, refined ones.

Another item which tends to increase belly fat is alcohol, hence the term “beer belly.” Alcohol has the additional disadvantage of lowering your inhibition, so you may end up eating other unhealthy foods which you would have avoided if sober. Less alcohol in the ab diet will help you lose your belly.

It is also important to consider the timing of your meals in your diet. You should try to eat your larger meals earlier, so that you have more time to burn off the calories throughout the day. Eating lots of calories at night means you won’t have the opportunity to be active afterward, and will likely end up storing them as fat.

Flattening your stomach to reveal your abs can seem daunting, but if you have the determination to stick to these ab diet rules, you will certainly see results which you will be proud of.
